Diatom in the WIN Awards finals
The chair designed by Ross Lovegrove for Moroso has been selected by worldinteriorsnews.com to move forward into the finals of the WIN Awards 2014, in the category Furniture & Interior Accessories.
Presented at the Salone del Mobile 2014, the Diatom is a stackable aluminium chair that derives its shape from that of a diatom, the primeval single-celled organism with its silica skeleton, found in all aquatic environments. Production makes use of technology developed for the automotive sector to reduce weight and production costs. A pressure-formed sheet of aluminium ensures absolute lightness while offering the same great performance as steel.
The WIN Awards jury commented on the Diatom: “Both ‘unusual’ and ‘very clever’, IT is most definitely helping interior products to ‘head in the right direction’. Using ‘pretty amazing technology’ with ‘incredible’ results, the stackable aluminium chair really appealed to our jury, almost ‘sculptural’ in its look.”
The awards ceremony will be held on 30 October at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
