From fiber to product: the exciting journey of a textile – Milan
The workshop, organized in collaboration with Kvadrat and carried out for the first time in 2016, has already passed through Milan in 2019. In all these years it has touched several cities: London, Stockholm, Dubai, Singapore and Zurich, to name just a few.
The second Milanese edition was staged on Thursday 6 October in the Moroso flagship store in Via Pontaccio.
The event foresees that a prestigious jury decides the winner among designers and architects selected from the most important studios in Milan. The jury for this edition was composed of Cristina Morozzi, journalist and design critic, Maddalena Casadei, architect and designer, and Raffaella Mangiarotti, architect.
Participants competed in upholstering the miniature version of the Ruff armchair, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Moroso, which plays on the design of binary geometry: a harmonious and successful intertwining between seat and back. In Ruff the dialogue between forms is solemn and sculptural. The wide armrests rest on the sides of the seat and wrap it firmly, even if they meet in a single point. The result is that of harmony between curved and straight lines: a simple geometry in architectural dialogue with the surrounding space. A functional form that does not forget to be an object that inhabits a place.
The architects had to create their own customized version of the miniature Ruff armchair using the wide range of Kvadrat fabrics: the creativity that the jury decided as best was rewarded with a 1: 1 scale Ruff armchair obviously upholstered with Kvadrat fabric.
