From fiber to product: the exciting journey of a textile – Oslo
The workshop, organized in collaboration with Kvadrat and held for the first time in 2016, has already passed through Milan in 2019, and in all these years it has touched various cities: London, Stockholm, Dubai, Singapore and Zurich, to name just a few.
The new edition was staged on Thursday 1 December at the Expo Nova headquarters.
The event foresees that a prestigious jury will decide the winner among designers and architects selected among the most important studios in Oslo. The jury for this edition is composed by Andrea Madshus, owner of Expo Nova, Andreas Engesvik, designer, and Tonje Madsen, chief editor of BoBedre.
The participants challenged each other to upholster the miniature version of the Ruff armchair, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Moroso, which plays on the design of binary geometry: a harmonious and successful intertwining of seat and backrest. In Ruff the dialogue between forms is solemn and sculptural. The wide armrests rest on the sides of the seat and wrap it firmly, even if they meet in a single point. The result is that of harmony between curved and straight lines: a simple geometry in architectural dialogue with the surrounding space. A functional form that does not forget that it is an object that inhabits a place.
The architects therefore had to create their own customized version of the Ruff armchair in miniature using the vast range of Kvadrat fabrics: the creativity that the jury decreed as the best was rewarded with a 1:1 scale Ruff armchair obviously upholstered in Kvadrat fabric.
