GEOMETRIÆ

GEOMETRIÆ

A study in geometry and light

a project by Front

During Milan Design Week 2026, GEOMETRIÆ, a project by Swedish designers Anna Lindgren and Sofia Lagerkvist of Front, takes shape in the spaces of the Colombo’s Gallery at Via Solferino, 44 in Milan. It traverses a subtle territory, where geometry, image, and perception meet.

Geometry, at its core, is measure and stability. Spheres, cylinders, primary volumes: universal shapes, immediately recognizable. Yet, it is precisely from this apparent certainty that the project begins, transforming precision into ambiguity and form into experience.

In GEOMETRIÆ, each element is born as a drawing. Light and shadow do not describe volume, they construct it. The gesture is pictorial, the logic is that of representation. At this stage, the object still exists as an image, suspended between intention and possibility.

The transition to matter is never definitive. Surfaces become jacquard fabrics, images expand and transform into three-dimensional elements. But what we see never quite coincides with what it is. Shadows are not generated by real light: they are already inscribed in the surface, an integral part of the shape.

A silent tension emerges between presence and representation. What appears as volume is at the same time image. What seems stable turns out to be unstable.

Within the exhibition, space is constructed through visual stratifications: objects dialogue with surfaces, surfaces with light, light with the gaze of the observer. Experience is not linear, but perceptual. It invites us to slow down, to pause, to question what appears evident.

Photographer Massimo Gardone‘s gaze fits into this process, accompanying and reopening the narrative. Photography does not document, but transforms: it subtracts weight from volume, alters the relationship between light and shadow, and brings the object back to a sign dimension. A further step, in which what was built returns to being an image.

“Portrait of an idea” – Massimo Gardone

GEOMETRIÆ is thus configured as an open system, in continuous movement between drawing, object and representation. A project that does not seek definitive answers, but opens up possibilities.

During Milan Design Week, the Colombo’s Gallery becomes an observation space. A place where geometry moves away from its descriptive function to become visual and mental experience.
